The Florida Brewery Running Series 5K might be months away, but if you’re thinking about participating, now’s the time to start training—strategically. “I’ve found that doing things in moderation is best long term,” says Dr. Jesus.
Instead of jumping straight to 3.1 miles, consider this: start with a half-mile, progress to a mile, then build from there. Dr. Jesus’s “30-day rule” is ideal for long-term goals. “If you could do, for example, one mile a month and then the next month, work your way up to two miles a month… that’s the best way to train for it.”
Why Alignment Matters
You can buy the best running shoes out there, but if your body’s mechanics are off, you’ll still experience problems. A misaligned spine disrupts how joints move and how muscles fire.
Getting adjusted, getting the body primed up so it’s moving as best as it can, with ease on the nervous system, ease on the musculature around the spine and the joint, can help make the run easier,” says Dr. Jesus.
Adjustments help your body move more efficiently and feel more balanced, making each training session less stressful on your body.
Don’t Forget Your Ankles (and Knees!)
Keeping your foundation strong is also crucial. “Everything starts from the ankle up,” explains Dr. Jesus. Long-distance running puts repeated stress on ankles and knees. Chiropractic adjustments don’t stop at the spine—Dr. Jesus also works on extremities to improve range of motion and reduce compensation patterns that lead to pain.
Support Your Goals from the Ground Up
Even if you’re not a seasoned runner, chiropractic care can help you enjoy training and stay consistent. Making small tweaks to your alignment now can make a big difference in how you feel as race day approaches.
