Back Pain Treatment in Lake Worth

Woman with back pain

Back pain isn’t a single condition. It generally refers to pain between the base of your neck and your belt line and may involve a disc, muscle, joint, ligament, tendon, or the effects of posture and repetitive strain.

That’s why care at Midtown Clinic of Chiropractic starts with an exam, not guesswork. We focus on musculoskeletal problems and related nerve symptoms. If your findings point to something outside the scope of chiropractic care, we’ll let you know and refer you to the appropriate provider.

For more than 13 years, we’ve regularly cared for patients with many different types of back pain.

NEW PATIENTS

Common Causes of Back Pain We See

  • Sciatica: Irritation or compression involving the sciatic nerve may cause pain, numbness or tingling that travels into the buttock or leg.
  • Herniated or Bulging Discs: Disc changes may cause localized discomfort or irritate nearby nerves, sometimes producing symptoms into an arm or leg.
  • SI Joint Pain: Irritation of the joints connecting the pelvis and lower spine may cause pain around the lower back, buttock or hip.
  • Facet Joint Pain: These small spinal joints can become irritated, contributing to localized pain, stiffness or difficulty with certain movements.
  • Muscle Strain: Lifting, twisting, sports, yard work and everyday activities can strain the muscles supporting your spine.
  • Pinched Nerves: Nerve irritation or pressure may cause pain, numbness or tingling that extends beyond the back itself.

Why Does Your Back Hurt?

It’s easy to blame back pain on getting older, but age isn’t necessarily the whole story. Sometimes there’s one obvious event, such as a fall or awkward movement. Other times, repetitive strain builds gradually from doing the same activities day after day.

Identifying what’s involved gives us a clearer basis for deciding what to do next.

What Happens During Your First Visits?

Your first visit starts with a consultation to determine whether an exam is appropriate. If it is, we can generally complete it that day. Depending on your situation, this may include orthopedic testing, range-of-motion and muscle testing, nerve checks, a focused examination of the painful area and a broader spinal exam. Necessary X-rays may also be taken.

You may or may not receive treatment on day one. If we accept your case, we’ll explain your treatment plan and what the next few weeks may look like. A re-evaluation is typically performed between two weeks and one month, depending on your case, so we can assess your progress and make changes when needed.

Chiropractic Care and Advanced Therapies

Adjustments are often part of treatment, along with therapies selected according to your exam findings.
Shockwave therapy using the Chattanooga Intelect® RPW 2 may be used for muscle pain, trigger points and certain soft-tissue problems. Accu-SPINA® and Chattanooga Triton DTS® spinal decompression may be considered when disc or joint involvement is present. The FDA-cleared Erchonia XLR8 laser may also be used to promote cellular activity involved in the healing process.

Exercise becomes part of care as you stabilize, both in the office and at home, helping address some of the physical factors behind the problem rather than relying on adjustments alone.

Know What’s Covered Before You Decide

Standard health insurance generally doesn’t cover shockwave, spinal decompression or laser therapy, while motor vehicle accident coverage may differ. We’ll explain what’s covered, what’s out of pocket and why a particular therapy is being recommended before you decide.

Getting Back to the Things You Stopped Doing

One patient, P., had been playing golf with his sons and later went back to mulching his flower beds. Partway through, he found himself stuck bent over with pain radiating down his leg, and even sleeping had become difficult. His care included decompression and shockwave therapy, and he later reported that he was resting and sleeping comfortably again.
Individual results vary.
